JAIPUR It’s hard to miss the pink in the  ‘ Pink City’ as Jaipur is fondly called. Jaipur is a fine representation of the regal grandiose that has always distinguished the state of Rajasthan. Home to ,  towering forts and holy temples, not only has Jaipur gracefully retained its royal roots but it proudly displays them for visitors to see and experience.  See: Hawa Mahal:  Jaipur’s most iconic landmark, the red and pink sandstone façade of Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds is widely recognised. Within its chambers, hidden from public view, the women of the royal house would secretly observe the activities on the street through the palace’s latticework openings. A fine example of Mughal architecture, the pyramidal design of Hawa Mahal rises five-storeys from the ground. Nahargarh Fort:  Set on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort is striking in stature. Divar Island by Rosevan Menezes The famous tree that is featured in so many movies filmed in Goa is situated in Divar island, A place where I was born. Initially, there were three Communidades in Divar : Piedade, São Matias (now Malar), Goathias. The Piedade Communidade was later sub-divided into two, Goltim and Navelim. According to legend, the original inhabitants of this island were people who once lived in Old Goa but had to desert during a disastrous pestilence that heavily decimated the population of Old Goa.

The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. These roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays make for popular diving and snorkeling sites. Indigenous Andaman  Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off limits to visitors. The name Andaman is presumed to be derived from Hanuman, who was known to the Malays as Handuman. The name Nicobar seems to be a corruption of the South Indian term ‘Nakkavaram’ (Land of the Naked) as indicated in the great Tanjore inscription of AD 1050. The most widely spoken language on the islands is Bengali followed by Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Andaman Creole Hindi is also widely used as a trade language in the Andaman islands.

AGUADA FORT

Image
AGUADA FORT Aguada fort is located 18 km from Panjim and roughly 52 km away from margao. Hard to miss, the 17th century Portuguese fort stands on the Sinquerim beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea, manages to envelope the entire peninsula at the south western tip of Bardez.  A freshwater spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that used to stop by. That is how it got its name: aguada means water. This fort is divided in two segments: the upper part acted as a fort and watering station, while the lower part acted as a safe berth for the portuguese ships. The main intention of building the fort was to guard Goa against the Dutch and the Marathas. The fort served as a reference point for vessels coming from Europe. Fort Aguada was the most prized and crucial fort to the Portuguese. Aguada fort seems like the perfect destination for a bright evening. The view from climbing up the spiral staircase, up the lighthouse, is ecstatic. It is one of the finest beauties we

COLA BEACH

Image
COLA BEACH Cola is a stunningly beautiful hidden beach in South Goa that very few tourists know of. This is so remote that it feels like a private beach. It remains hidden by thick vegetation, palm trees, and hilly terrain. The coconut trees that line its shore make it look beautiful. Cool and fresh breeze of the palm trees refreshes the mind. There are rice and paddy fields too. Cola looks beautiful from the top of a path that leads to the beach and through the trees. There are actually two small bays here, which are separated by a small hill. You can climb to the top for an even more beautiful view of the surrounding areas. The smaller beach is sometimes called ‘Little Cola’. It is much quieter and cleaner than most other Goa beaches, as there are very few tourists, even in the peak tourist season. This makes Cola a great place for a nice relaxing holiday. There is no nightlife here, but you can hold your own private party in complete privacy on the beach. Swimming is relati

The climb back when leaving the beach is long and hectic. This beach is perfect for those with a liking for adventure. Its untouched nature present exciting opportunities for exploring.                                        GOLDEN TEMPLE One of the most spiritual places in India, Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest shrines in Sikhism and is alive with religious fervour and sacredness. Its divinity is a thing that can only be experienced and not described. After going through a tumultuous period of demolitions, it was rebuilt by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1830 purely with marble and gold. It is the view of the resplendent shrine, glistening in the centre of the tank that brings an infinite calmness. It is located right in the heart of Amritsar and is easily reachable from any part of the city. Serving as a symbol of brotherhood and equality, Golden Temple is visited by people from all over the world who come here to seek spiritual solace and religious fulfilment.  In spite of the thousands of people milling about in the premises of the temple, the only voice you will hear around you is silence interspersed with chants of the Sikh pr

WAGAH BORDER “Flags and hats with India’s colours were being sold along the admission queue, on the Indian side of the border with Pakistan, where hundreds were waiting for entry to the ceremony. Once inside the stadium, building work to add more seating capacity was visible on both sides of the border. A sign of growing tourist numbers, or a bid to outdo one another? Loudspeakers on either side also bid to outdo one another. While the Indians may have won the numbers game, the Pakistanis definitely had the better music. The flag bearers ran in and a deafening cheer rose up from the crowds on both sides. Thirty minutes later, we heard a final whistle, and saw high marching, and a blink-and-you’d-miss-it handshake between officers. The gates between India and Pakistan clanged shut once again. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d come to a long-anticipated cricket or football match. Perhaps the biggest surprise of this experience is that the ceremony takes place at all. Sev

HOLLANT BEACH Hollant beach is located within a shallow bay that has a gentle slope towards the sea. There are no currents flowing here and the beach is very safe for swimming. Hollant beach is a small beach located to the south of Bogmalo beach. It is located at a distance of 7 kms. from Vasco city. During low tide the beach area substantially increases since the slope of the beach is gradual and shallow. Further into the sea, fishermen often anchor their boats. Due to the shallow draft of the water at this beach, it is a favorite amongst families. Often families can be seen frolicking in the shallow water and enjoying themselves. There are just a couple of beachside shacks at this beach. No major hotels are located close to the beach. However accommodation can be found with the locals at guest houses and villas on rent.  One can only travel here with their own vehicle. The beach is well connected by road though. To the left side of the

Galgibaga Beach The seasonal nesting and hatching site for the endangered Olive Ridley turtle, Galgibaga beach is generally quite isolated, just except a few  Beach shacks  selling seafood and drinks. Lying 18 km away from Canacona, southwards of Talpona river estuary, this beach is known to be the cleanest beach of Goa. Crystal clear water, silver glistening sand, along with palm and coconut trees sprinkled all around cast a charm on you. Also, treat your eyes to the lovely scenery and admire the tranquil surrounding. As the beach is an isolated one and the food options might be limited, thus it is advisable that you carry packed one. The beach is also named as the Turtle Beach as it is one of the three Goan beaches where the state runs a program for olive turtles saving and protection and the northern part of the beach is reserved for the same. If you visit the beach between December and February, you might spot turtle eggs or nests.

SHIMLA Shimla offers much more than charming colonial buildings against a backdrop of the magnificent snow-capped Himalayas. Much more than the dozens of Bollywood songs set on Mall Road or its oldest boarding schools. The upper reaches around the Shimla region offer skating on natural ice as well as hosts the MTB Himalaya (South East Asia’s biggest mountain biking race). Shimla also boasts ownership of the 16th century “Arya Astha Sahasrikas Prajna Paramita” Tibetan script (at the quaint Maria Brothers antique booksellers) and the Jakhu Temple Shrine with Lord Hanuman’s footprints. Originally part of the Kingdom of Nepal (before it was declared the British Summer Capital of India), pleasant summers and snow-covered winters make Shimla a  favourite weekend getaway  with tourists all the year around. Expect a tattoo artist around every corner, but expect no food after midnight. Legendary ghost stories (Chudail Baudi, for single men whose cars slow down for the lady in the white sa
